The recent cholera outbreak in Buhera district has caused concern among government officials and health organizations, leading to urgent action being taken to address the issue.
In response, the government has announced plans to commission the drilling of boreholes in affected communities this week. This initiative aims to provide access to clean drinking water, which has been identified as a major contributing factor to the outbreak. Many of the affected individuals have been getting water from unprotected sources such as wells and rivers, putting them at risk of contracting the disease.
Health and Child Care Minister Douglas Mombeshora, along with officials from various organizations, recently visited health facilities in Buhera to assess the situation. During the visit, it was noted that poor sanitation and health-seeking behaviors also played a role in the spread of cholera. As a result, the government plans to engage with religious leaders to encourage their followers to seek medical care.
